What Ofsted said

From the inspection on 25 November 2025

Wodensborough Ormiston Academy is a friendly, respectful community where pupils are valued. Pupils enjoy coming to this inclusive school and speak positively about the support and care they receive from staff. Pupils feel safe and well looked after. They say the school is like a 'family'. Students in the sixth form speak confidently about how their individual needs are being met. Most pupils have a positive attitude to their learning and are keen to do well. The school identifies any barriers pupils may have and is helping to reduce these. Many pupils, including those who are the most vulnerable, improve their academic outcomes from their starting points. However, a significant number of pupils do not achieve as well as they should. Pupils in Years 7 to 11 typically behave well. Students in the sixth form demonstrate consistently high standards of behaviour and build respectful and positive relationships with staff. When there are concerns about behaviour, pupils say the school deals with this rapidly and effectively. Most pupils attend school regularly and feel well prepared for life in modern Britain. Pupils who face barriers to their learning or wellbeing say the school builds their confidence to learn and to be around others. This is especially the case for disadvantaged pupils and those who have missed periods of time from education. Pupils have many opportunities to represent the school, such as through the cadets and the Duke of Edinburgh's Award scheme. These experiences help to provide pupils with leadership experience as well as the chance to contribute to the school community. Pupils speak positively about taking part in theatre visits and subject trips to London. They have the opportunity to achieve their 'super kind' badges, rewarded for the positive attributes they display.

What the school should improve

  • The school should ensure that all staff consistently check pupils' understanding of the knowledge they are learning. Staff should use this information to adapt future learning to address any gaps or misconceptions.
  • The school should ensure that all pupils secure the foundational knowledge they need, particularly in writing and mathematics, to successfully access and deepen their learning across the curriculum.
