Pupils experience a warm, welcoming and inclusive school where they are known, valued and cared for as individuals. Many pupils join the school at different points in their education or have special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Staff work closely with families from the start to understand children's needs and to provide support when it is needed. As a result, pupils settle quickly, develop a sense of belonging and feel safe because they know that staff care about them. Pupils enjoy learning and speak enthusiastically about the opportunities available to them. They particularly value books, educational visits, sport and the wider curriculum. Pupils talk confidently about what they have learned and can explain how new learning builds on what they already know. Whether discussing ancient Egypt, tropical rainforests or recent visits and experiences, pupils demonstrate growing knowledge and understanding of the world around them. Pupils develop confidence and achieve well across the curriculum, including in reading, writing and mathematics. Relationships between pupils and staff are caring, respectful and supportive. Pupils value difference and treat others fairly. They respect different cultures, beliefs and backgrounds. Pupils understand the importance of contributing positively to their community and to life in modern Britain. They learn alongside classmates with a wide range of needs. They demonstrate patience, understanding and acceptance towards others. Pupils are confident that bullying or unkind behaviour are addressed quickly. Behaviour in lessons and during social times is typically positive. There is a calm atmosphere around the school. Staff work persistently with pupils and families to improve attendance so that pupils, including those who are disadvantaged, pupils with SEND and pupils who speak English as an additional language, participate fully in school life and the many opportunities the school provides. By the time they leave, pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education.

What the school should improve

• Leaders should ensure that teachers use checks on pupils' learning consistently well so that learning is broken into manageable steps and focused on the important knowledge and skills that they want pupils to learn.
• Leaders should ensure that their high expectations for pupils' presentation and the accurate application of writing skills are applied consistently across the curriculum.
