What Ofsted said

From the inspection on 28 April 2026

There is a real sense of community at Tillington Manor. This is felt from the moment the school day begins. Pupils are happy to come to school and attend well. They get on well with one another and play cooperatively. Pupils learn to be tolerant and show respect for all. As a result, they are well prepared for life in modern Britain. Everyone is welcome in this positive climate. Pupils enjoy a wide range of opportunities, including the many residential visits, clubs and trips. Leaders make reasonable adjustments so that all pupils, including those who are disadvantaged, those known to social care and pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), take part fully. Pupils typically behave well and generally work hard. They feel safe. This is because they trust staff to resolve issues. Leaders have established effective systems to help pupils to share any concerns. Pupils benefit from effective pastoral support when they need it. They say that bullying is rare and is dealt with quickly. Some pupils at the end of key stage 2 do not achieve as well as they should in spelling, punctuation and grammar. Leaders are actively addressing this. In the early years, some children do not make the progress they could in writing. This means some pupils are not as well prepared as they could be for the next stage of learning. Pupils with SEND and those who are disadvantaged benefit from effective and personalised support. This helps to reduce barriers to their learning and/or wellbeing. Tillington Manor is an inclusive and welcoming place to learn. Pupils are safe and happy and have a real sense of belonging.

What the school should improve

  • Leaders should further embed the revised writing curriculum and continue to strengthen assessment so that pupils consistently secure spelling, punctuation and grammar knowledge, leading to improved outcomes by the end of key stage 2.
  • Leaders should secure consistent curriculum delivery across the early years foundation stage and strengthen enhanced provision, with a particular focus on embedding frequent, purposeful writing and mathematics opportunities within the early years environment.
