From the inspection on 24 March 2026
Pupils at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School learn in a happy and safe environment. Pupils attend regularly and they value learning. They appreciate the warm and nurturing relationships that exist across the school. Pupils are friendly, kind and caring towards each other. They recognise that the school family represents how they should take care of others and listen to different points of view. Pupils do not worry about bullying. They know how to identify and report it. Pupils have every faith in staff to act quickly if it did happen. This helps them to feel safe. Pupils enjoy learning. Staff have high expectations and so pupils learn to give their best efforts. Pupils who may struggle with this receive well-placed support to rise to what is expected. Pupils develop a ‘can do’ attitude. This sets them up well for the next stage of their education. Pupils achieve well. In the vast majority of subjects, this is reflected in their published results. Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and those who are disadvantaged, receive the help that they need to learn well and take part in the school’s wider offer. Staff make sure that pupils receive the support that they need to be able to follow their interests. For example, leaders make sure that pupils with SEND can represent the school at sports fixtures. Pupils develop a rich understanding of the world. Leaders plan opportunities that enhance pupils’ understanding of how different people live. For example, visitors from different cultures share real life experiences with pupils. Pupils learn to ask thoughtful questions and develop into curious learners. This prepares them well for life in modern Britain.
What the school should improve
- Leaders should ensure pupils’ writing skills develop further so that pupils can consistently achieve well, including at the end of key stage 2.
- Leaders should make sure that all aspects of their monitoring give them the most useful and precise information about curriculum and teaching to further increase consistency across the school.
