From the inspection on 16 June 2026
Pupils are confident and happy at St John’s. They arrive at school enthusiastically and they are greeted warmly by staff, who care about them. Pupils build positive and constructive relationships with staff and their peers. As a result, pupils feel they belong here. Pupils, including those who are disadvantaged or have special educational needs and/or disabilities, attend school regularly. Few pupils are persistently absent. Pupils who need additional support to attend more regularly get the help they need. Pupils benefit from a broad and balanced curriculum. Teaching is of a high quality, consistently. Staff model learning clearly and pupils have purposeful opportunities to practise their skills. Pupils learn to communicate well. They are introduced to ambitious vocabulary from an early age. Pupils become increasingly independent in their learning. The youngest children navigate the early years environment with confidence. They focus intently on their learning. Pupils achieve well. They make steady progress from their starting points. Pupils’ outcomes in national tests are to be celebrated. Pupils behave well. They are respectful and polite. Pupils listen carefully during lessons. They are self-disciplined and dedicated to their learning. Pupils play together successfully during social times. They notice if someone needs a friend to play with and they invite them to join their games. Pupils say that bullying happens rarely at St John’s. They say that when pupils have disagreements, adults resolve problems quickly. Pupils know who they can go to for help. They feel confident to do so. Pupils benefit from an extensive personal development programme. It is adapted to respond to pupils’ needs. Pupils learn how to keep safe, online and offline. They know how to take care of their physical and mental health. Pupils engage in a wide range of enrichment activities through the school’s pupil passport initiative. Pupils learn to be tolerant and empathetic. They are highly respectful of differences. As a result, pupils are very well prepared for their next steps and life in modern Britain.

- Leaders should continue to respond to the changing circumstances and needs of the school community so that high standards are maintained across all areas, including pupil behaviour.
- Leaders should continue to enhance their communication with all stakeholders so that there is a shared understanding of all aspects of the school’s work.
