What Ofsted said

From the inspection on 20 May 2025

Pupils achieve well at this caring, inclusive and community-focused school. The school instils a sense of ambition in the pupils through high expectations. This is reflected in their achievement in national assessments at the end of key stage 2. Pupils are enthusiastic about learning, and they have a sharp sense of enquiry. The broad and interesting curriculum, alongside a range of enrichment activities, promotes this interest in learning. Pupils understand the importance of the school values, such as 'friendship' and 'respect'. This understanding is demonstrated in pupils' very high standards of behaviour and conduct. Pupils are kind to each other, and they spend worthwhile time helping others in school and in the community. For example, their organisation of the senior citizens party is a much-anticipated annual event. There are many opportunities for pupils to develop their interests outside lessons. Pupils take advantage of these opportunities and everyone is included. Popular activities include the sewing club, the choir, football and cricket. At a local heritage event, pupils take part in morris dancing and stonemasonry. Year 6 pupils eagerly anticipate their residential trip to London, where they enjoy a West End show and meet Members of Parliament at Westminster.

What the school should improve

  • In a minority of subjects, checks on the ideas and concepts that pupils know and remember over time are not effective enough. As a result, the school is less able to gauge pupils' understanding so that pupils' knowledge builds over time. The school should work with staff to better check pupils' understanding so that pupils deepen their learning consistently well across all subjects.
