Pupils feel part of this caring school community. Each morning, they step into a welcoming environment where they are greeted by adults who know them well. This friendly start helps pupils feel secure and ready to learn. Pupils experience a broad curriculum that builds their knowledge in a clear and structured way. Teaching helps pupils understand new ideas and revisit previous learning so that they remember important content over time. This is especially the case in reading and mathematics. Pupils enjoy learning and typically achieve well. They are suitably prepared for the next stage of their learning. Staff understand pupils’ needs well and make sure that pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, those who are disadvantaged and those known to children’s social care experience the same curriculum as their peers. This helps pupils to progress steadily from their starting points. Pupils speak politely to adults and to each other. Lessons are usually purposeful, and most pupils maintain high levels of concentration. Staff address any concerns promptly and deal swiftly with any rare instances of unkind behaviour, including bullying. The school’s ongoing work with families helps pupils to attend school regularly. Pupils feel safe and understand how to keep safe in different situations. They learn about healthy respectful relationships and the difference between right and wrong. This gives them a growing sense of responsibility towards others. A wide range of opportunities beyond lessons broadens pupils’ horizons and builds character. Pupils have a voice in school life through roles such as office monitors, digital ambassadors and school councillors. They contribute positively to the local area through community projects, including collections for the local food bank and litter picking. Pupils have opportunities to try new interests and develop their confidence through clubs such as coding, chess, craft and multi-sports.

What the school should improve

• Leaders should make sure that staff, including early years practitioners, use the school’s teaching approaches consistently so that pupils experience high-quality learning across the curriculum and make even greater gains across different subjects.
• Leaders should ensure that the school’s writing approach is carefully implemented so that all pupils secure the skills of handwriting, spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Leaders should ensure that routines to maintain pupils’ focus are applied consistently so that all pupils remain engaged and learning time is used well.
