From the inspection on 1 July 2025
Pupils enjoy coming to this highly inclusive school. Rose Street Primary School is an integral part of the local community. Staff have created a nurturing environment, so that pupils feel safe and well cared for. Pupils feel calm and ready for learning. Pupils' achievement is improving each year because staff focus well on the areas that make the most difference to pupils' understanding. The school has high expectations of behaviour based around its core values of kindness and respect. Pupils play together happily on the playground, showing tolerance and kindness towards one another. Through the many ways that the school seeks their views, pupils feel truly listened to. As a result, pupils behave well and disruption to learning is rare. Pupils across the school love taking on the different roles that they are given. These include being sports leaders or buddies. These roles help pupils to learn about taking responsibility for an aspect of school life and to think about the feelings of others. Pupils benefit from a rich set of experiences that develop their understanding of the world around them. These include visits to the local beach and to a farm, where pupils learn about sustainability.
What the school should improve
- In some subjects, staff do not effectively check how well pupils have understood the knowledge they have been taught, before moving them on to more complex learning. This means pupils' misconceptions or gaps in knowledge are not identified and some pupils do not achieve as well as they could in these subjects. The school should ensure that systems are in place to check pupils' understanding and address any misconceptions in a timely manner, so they can build and connect knowledge securely over time.
- The school's work to further develop pupils' writing skills is not fully embedded. Not enough pupils produce writing of an age expected standard. The school should further embed and develop the teaching of writing, so that gaps in pupils' knowledge and skills are closed effectively.
