They are encouraged to take up the many leadership roles on offer. Warm relationships are a cornerstone of the school's ethos. Pupils are respectful of each other and the adults that support them. Pupils feel safe. Older pupils appreciate the recent positive changes to behaviour. Leaders have high expectations for pupils' conduct. These are applied consistently by staff. The school is calm and pupils engage well in their learning. During social times, pupils behave sensibly. Bullying is rare in the school. Pupils are supported to report any concerns they may have. They know that staff will act swiftly to address any discriminatory language should it be heard. The welcoming environment means that pupils enjoy coming to school. Attendance has improved and most pupils attend well. Vulnerable pupils are well supported to attend more regularly. Pupils value their education and many enjoy learning. Pupils are benefiting from the recent improvements that leaders have made to the quality of teaching. Pupils who experience barriers to their learning are well supported to access the full curriculum. Pupils in the specially resourced provision benefit from carefully considered adaptations that help them make positive progress through the curriculum. Typically, pupils achieve well. Outcomes for disadvantaged pupils in national examinations are improving. The effective careers provision means that pupils are well informed for their next steps in education, employment or training.

What the school should improve

  • Leaders should strengthen the systems for monitoring the support provided to disadvantaged pupils to ensure barriers are consistently removed and these pupils achieve well across the curriculum.
  • Leaders should continue to implement their strategy to reduce any ongoing barriers to pupils' attendance so that the number of pupils who attend school regularly increases.
