What Ofsted said

From the inspection on 10 December 2024

Pupils are happy and enjoy learning. The school does a great job in giving pupils experiences that they would not otherwise have. Pupils go on a lot of trips and have access to a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities. This means that pupils' interests are extended and nurtured. The school is ambitious for what pupils can achieve both academically and beyond. Pupils learn well. Most achieve in line with national expectations by the time they leave the school. Through meeting former pupils, they learn about the different future career paths open to them. Pupils are polite and kind. Pupils are really clear that anyone would be welcomed as part of the school community. Most pupils behave well and work hard. They are taught to be resilient and, as a result, keep going even when things are tricky. Pupils learn to reflect on their achievements and how to improve their work. There are opportunities for pupils to be leaders, taking part in the eco-council or as school councillors. They appreciate the opportunities to have their voices heard.

What the school should improve

  • There is some inconsistency in the effectiveness of some aspects of teaching approaches and how well pupils are supported to learn new concepts. This means some pupils do not build their knowledge as securely as they could. The school and trust should take appropriate action to ensure that teaching approaches are implemented effectively.
  • The school's support for pupils who have complex language and communication needs is not fully effective. This hinders pupils' progress in this vital aspect of their learning. The school and trust need to ensure that staff have the knowledge and expertise they need to implement this aspect of the school's curriculum effectively.
