Pupils are very proud to be part of this welcoming school community. Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities and those who are disadvantaged, work hard to meet the expectations that leaders have for their behaviour and achievement. Most pupils attend school regularly. They have positive attitudes towards school and their learning. Pupils develop the knowledge that they need to understand what is being taught. Typically, they achieve well. This is especially true in the early years, where children get off to a flying start. Overall, pupils leave school well prepared for the next stage of their education. Pupils benefit from a calm and kind atmosphere. Staff know pupils well and provide a culture of mutual respect and care. Staff form trusting relationships with pupils driven by the school’s ‘STAR’ values of success, teamwork, aspiration and respect. These values are at the heart of the school. Pupils know and use them well. Incidents of bullying or discrimination are uncommon. Pupils are confident that staff will help them deal quickly with any concerns they may have. They feel safe and well cared for. Pupils have a secure sense of belonging. Parents and carers praise the efforts staff make to support children to achieve and thrive. Pupils enjoy a wide range of visits that are matched carefully to their learning. For example, visits to science centres deepen their understanding about space. Pupils develop a sense of responsibility through the opportunities that leaders provide. They are proud to be class monitors. Pupils’ horizons are broadened through taking part in a range of clubs, such as in dance and football. Leaders ensure that these opportunities are open to all pupils.

What the school should improve

• Leaders should further develop staff expertise in checking and deepening pupils' understanding in lessons, so that they identify and quickly address pupils' misconceptions and gaps in knowledge. • Leaders should continue to develop the school's work to further improve pupils' spoken and written sentences in key stage 1, to help them to achieve all that they are capable of in their written work.
