What Ofsted said
From the inspection on 8 July 2025
To be a pupil at Loxley Hall is to be genuinely seen and warmly welcomed. Pupils are guided with care. Learning is shaped to fit each dream. Every step forward is met with a steady hand. Pupils do not just prepare for exams; they prepare for life. Many pupils arrive with difficult experiences of school, education and life. They leave with resilience and quiet confidence, knowing they can succeed, no matter where they began. Lessons stretch beyond the classroom, from reading and mathematics to cooking and engineering. Pupils are surrounded by high expectations and supported to achieve results comparable to those of their peers elsewhere. They rise to meet these goals and take pride in their journey. Behaviour is met with understanding, not punishment. When emotions rise, safe spaces like 'The Loft' and the 'Emotional Support Unit' (ESU) at the school, offer calm places to reset and return, ready to learn. Respect flows both ways and trust is built in every conversation. Consequently, there is a calm and purposeful environment. Pupils discover their talents through vocational courses, such as firefighting and agriculture, as well as activities like boxing, knitting and football. Events like Pride Week and Brew Monday bring the school community together, such as to celebrate identity and connect with others over a cup of tea.
What the school should improve
- In some subjects, the school does not ensure that staff identify or address gaps in pupils' knowledge effectively. On occasion, teaching does not provide sufficient opportunities for pupils to consolidate their learning and embed it into their long-term memory. This affects some pupils' achievement. The school should ensure that all staff can address knowledge gaps and support pupils to secure and retain their learning over time.
- In some cases, the curriculum is not delivered in a way that fully supports pupils' listening and processing needs. On occasions, some pupils receive too much language or and learning is not broken into manageable parts. This does not allow enough time for pupils to process what is being taught. The school should ensure that all staff adapt their teaching appropriately, with particular attention to pupils who struggle with listening and processing.
