Warm and nurturing relationships are at the heart of daily life in this inclusive school. Staff know pupils well. Pupils feel safe, respected and that they truly matter to the staff who care for them. As a result, pupils develop confidence and resilience, enabling them to engage in all the school has to offer. They are deeply proud of their school and their community. Pupils participate enthusiastically in the classroom. They behave well, and their attendance is increasingly consistent. Pupils understand the high expectations that staff have of their conduct. They rise to these standards. They take care of each other. Pupils show good manners, holding the door open for others and greeting everyone warmly. They embrace individuality and difference. Pupils enjoy a wide range of visits, such as to the theatre, museums or the town hall, and leaders make sure that these are accessible to all. Sporting opportunities are particularly valued. Boys and girls play football and basketball together harmoniously at playtimes. Many pupils enjoy the opportunities to represent their school through competitive sport, including a recent national dodgeball final and local tournaments in cricket and rugby. Notable improvements to teaching and to the curriculum have led to an increase in educational standards. Reading and the development of pupils' language skills are given high priority. Teachers check carefully to make sure pupils remember what they have been taught. Adults reduce barriers to learning for pupils through carefully planned support. As a result, pupils typically achieve well and are ready for the next stage of their education. Pastoral support is a strength. Staff work effectively with other partners to ensure pupils and their families get the help they need, particularly at difficult times in their lives. Pupils proudly share their different life experiences with others. These differences are celebrated.

What the school should improve

  • Leaders should ensure staff provide further opportunities for pupils to think deeply and apply their knowledge so that more pupils, particularly those who are disadvantaged, attain highly.
  • Leaders and governors should sharpen their analysis of school performance to evaluate the impact of their actions more precisely, particularly linked to their work to further improve pupils' attendance and participation in enrichment activities.
  • Leaders should ensure that opportunities for children to work independently in the Early Years are planned to precisely meet their needs, enabling children to secure and apply the knowledge and skills they need.
