Homelands Primary School fosters a caring environment and warmly welcomes pupils each morning. Leaders have a firm focus on making sure that everyone is included. This extends to the classroom. Here, pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities, as well as pupils who face other barriers to their learning, are well supported to succeed alongside their peers. Pupils typically achieve well. This is reflected in published outcomes and in the work that pupils produce. Pupils are enthusiastic about their learning. They are keen to share what they know and remember. Leaders' high expectations are shared by staff. As a result, pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education. The school's open and inclusive nature helps pupils to develop a sense of belonging. Some pupils join at different times in the year. These pupils are given the help that they need to settle quickly and catch up on any missed learning. Pupils behave well and the school maintains a calm atmosphere. Leaders and staff forge close and meaningful relationships with pupils and parents and carers. Staff listen to parents’ concerns, which helps the school to understand pupils well and informs decision-making. As a result, pupils feel safe and trust that staff will support them if they have any worries, including any concerns about bullying. Most pupils attend regularly. For pupils who struggle with attendance, the school works with parents to remove any barriers to coming to school. Leaders hold ambitious aims for pupils to learn about the breadth of careers available to them as they grow older. To strengthen pupils' understanding, visitors such as police officers and nurses explain their roles and responsibilities to pupils. Pupils are rightly proud of their school. They speak enthusiastically about theme days, when they learn, for example, about the experiences of evacuees during the Second World War and the lives of the Romans. These opportunities help pupils to gain a more meaningful understanding of these subjects.

What the school should improve

• Leaders should continue their work to secure consistently high attendance for pupils, including those who are disadvantaged.
• Leaders should continue to embed strategies for checking that pupils have secured the necessary foundational knowledge, including in relation to spelling and punctuation.
