Pupils flourish within this caring, friendly community. They love learning and value the many opportunities they receive to explore each subject. Staff skilfully adjust activities to reduce barriers to learning for pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities. As a result, all pupils are very well prepared for their next steps in education. The school's values positively prepare pupils for life. Resilience, mutual respect and commitment to learning are embedded across the school’s work. Pupils feel safe. They are listened to by nurturing and trusted staff. They know who to turn to if they need emotional support. Pupils consistently behave well in school. They say that bullying is rare. Leaders and staff deal swiftly with incidents of poor or unkind behaviour. Pupils attend school regularly. They thrive academically and emotionally because of embedded routines and the well-designed curriculum that is taught consistently well. Pupils experience educational visits that bring learning to life, for example Year 3 go to the Peak District and Year 6 enhance their knowledge of life during the Blitz through a visit to an air raid shelter museum. Pupils are proud of the ‘Learning Avenue’ and the ‘Learning Street’ in the heart of school, which help them to know and remember more. Pupils embrace leadership responsibilities. They are elected to the school government where they make decisions to improve pupils' experiences further. Pupils welcome the opportunities to debate topical issues. For example, members of the 'Global Gang' talk about the impact of waste on the environment. Pupil play leaders listen to younger pupils read at lunchtime to help them learn. Staff set up activities so that pupils have fun during their social times. Pupils learn songs and play the ukulele. They sing with professional choirs. Pupils develop their art skills to a high standard working alongside a professional artist.
What the school should improve
- Leaders and those with responsibility for governance should sustain the effectiveness of their work in all areas, including the delivery of the curriculum, so that pupils' learning, including for children in the early years, continues to deepen further.
