Pupils are happy and safe in this welcoming and inclusive school. They know who their trusted adults are and feel confident sharing any worries. Staff greet pupils warmly each morning, helping them feel valued and ready for the day. Adults know pupils well as individuals, listen carefully and understand the support they need. Pupils are proud of their school and develop positive relationships with staff and with one another. Pupils speak positively about being part of the school community. Each pupil is known, understood and included. Staff build warm, respectful relationships that help pupils feel secure. They act as positive role models, and most pupils reflect this in how they treat each other. In this nurturing environment, pupils flourish. Their experiences are shaped by the school’s expectations to ‘be ready, respectful and safe’. Pupils enjoy coming to school and are keen to do their best. Recent improvements made by leaders mean pupils typically behave well, learn successfully and feel safe. They play happily together and benefit from a wide range of opportunities that help them develop their interests and talents. Pupils say that bullying is rare and when it does occur, staff deal with it quickly and effectively. In the early years, children settle quickly and respond well to established routines. These routines continue throughout the school, helping pupils behave consistently well. Staff model the behaviour they expect and provide pastoral support for pupils, who need extra help managing their emotions. As a result, pupils generally have positive attitudes to school life and learning. Parents and carers appreciate the improvements leaders and staff have made. Many work closely with the school, recognising the positive impact on pupils’ behaviour, attendance and learning. Children develop a clear sense of belonging from the early years onwards, supported by nurturing provision and a smooth transition from home into school life.

What the school should improve

• Leaders should ensure that the pupil premium strategy is understood by all staff, implemented consistently and evaluated effectively so that disadvantaged pupils achieve well across the curriculum.
• Leaders should ensure that assessment arrangements in the wider curriculum help teachers check pupils’ understanding and adapt teaching appropriately so gaps in pupils’ knowledge are addressed effectively.
• Leaders should continue to strengthen work to support learning, especially for disadvantaged pupils, so that their achievement is consistently reflected in the school’s published outcomes over time.
