From the inspection on 9 June 2026
Pupils are proud to belong to this small, friendly village school. They arrive each morning with a smile and excitement for the day ahead. Staff know pupils well and help them to feel safe and settled. Warm relationships between pupils and staff are seen in abundance and help create a genuine family feel to the school. Lunchtimes for example, see pupils across the school eating together in harmony with the oldest pupils helping the youngest. Pupils behave kindly towards one another. They live by the school values of ‘service, perseverance, wisdom, friendship and trust’. Pupils say any unkindness or bullying rarely happens. They know it will be dealt with if it were to occur. Pupils behave well in lessons, they focus well and fully engage with their teachers and peers. Pupils have positive attitudes to school and are keen to experience all that the school offers. They enjoy learning and appreciate the wide range of enrichment activities made available, especially the music and sports offer which are well planned and available to all pupils. Clubs such as magic club, netball, gardening and drama develop pupils’ interests. Because of this, pupil attendance is high. Typically, in the core subjects of reading, writing and mathematics, pupils achieve in line with national averages. This includes pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities and pupils who are disadvantaged. Staff provide effective support that helps to reduce pupils' barriers to learning or to accessing other aspects of school life. Leadership opportunities such as school councillors, worship leaders, sports ambassadors allow older pupils to support their community well and helps to develop their character. They have a secure sense of charity and giving to others less fortunate than themselves. Pupils are well prepared for their next stages of education. They know and live daily the school vision of ‘Let your light shine’.
What the school should improve
- Leaders should ensure that the task design of activities enables pupils to deepen their learning over time.
- Leaders should continue to embed strategies for developing writing and spelling in order to further strengthen pupils' achievement.
