Pupils’ sense of belonging and security is evident in their rising attendance and positive, good humoured conduct. They play their full part in generating the purposeful atmosphere and sense of camaraderie evident in this large and growing school. Pupils understand and rise to meet leaders’ expectations of their behaviour. Very many pupils display positive attitudes to their learning. Pupils’ work, attitudes and positive contributions are celebrated, be it by being awarded a yellow shirt or by securing a spot on the achievement wall. Pupils benefit significantly from the school’s personal development programme. Large proportions are keen participants in the school’s many clubs and enrichment activities. Pupils play their part in shaping the school’s approach to inclusion, as equality and rights advocates, or when leading assemblies or promoting charitable events among other things. Pupils who need a helping hand, or reassurance to assist them to overcome concerns or challenges receive the support that they need. They are confident to access this support through ‘The Hive’ and ‘Wellbeing Centre’, for example. Pupils gain a great deal from the school’s work within the local community. The 'Greatest Of All The Boys' project is a prominent and impactful example of this work. Pupils learn a broad curriculum which is, on the whole, effectively taught. Pupils generally achieve well and are suitably prepared for their next steps. Those who need additional support to boost their literacy skills typically get the help they need to fully access the curriculum. Staff know pupils well. This means pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities receive the help they need to overcome barriers to learning or their wellbeing. The school’s careers programme helps high proportions of pupils, including those who are disadvantaged, to successfully continue in education when they leave Brighton Hill Community School.

• Leaders should continue their work to improve the quality of teaching in all subjects and support all pupils, including those with barriers to their learning, to achieve consistently well.
