From the inspection on 19 May 2026
Pupils are proud to be part of this school, where they are ‘growing in the forest’ together. The school has a calm and kind atmosphere. Staff know pupils well and foster a culture of mutual respect and care. Staff form trusting relationships with pupils, and these are central to the school. Incidents of bullying or discrimination are uncommon. Pupils are confident that staff will help them quickly deal with any concerns. They feel safe and well cared for. Most pupils attend school regularly, including pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Pupils are well prepared for the next stage of their education. Overall, pupils achieve well in the school, including disadvantaged pupils. Some pupils achieve more highly in reading and mathematics than in writing. Some pupils have gaps in their letter formation and spelling. These are closing due to leaders' actions. Pupils, including those who are disadvantaged, work hard to meet the high expectations of staff. Pupils with SEND typically achieve well from their starting points. Pupils benefit from staff knowing the barriers they face and adjusting the curriculum appropriately when needed. Pupils have a secure sense of belonging. Pupils deepen this and their self-esteem through strategies such as the ‘VIP’ programme. This helps every child to tell their peers what makes them unique. It is recognised and appreciated by others. Pupils benefit from a wide range of leadership opportunities. Year 6 pupils model and drive these experiences in the school. For example, year 6 reading and play leaders help promote and develop younger pupil leaders in these areas.
What the school should improve
- Leaders need to further develop staff expertise in checking and deepening pupils' understanding so gaps and misconceptions can be addressed effectively and consistently.
- Leaders should continue to develop pupils' writing by embedding their approach to accurate and well-sequenced letter formation and spelling.
- Leaders should to continue to work purposefully with parents and carers to ensure that whole school priorities are understood.
