Pupils are happy and proud to be part of this school. They describe it as a place where they feel safe, supported and included. Pupils arrive each day ready to learn, settle quickly into well-established routines and engage with their lessons positively. They enjoy their learning and speak confidently about what they have learned. Pupils generally achieve well and develop the knowledge and skills they need for the next stage of their education. They talk enthusiastically about opportunities to apply their learning. Pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, receive support that enables them to take part in learning and wider school activities. Pupils treat each other with kindness and respect. They work and play together cooperatively and form positive relationships with staff, who know them well. Pupils say that bullying does not occur and are confident that adults will deal with any concerns quickly and fairly. This helps pupils feel safe and secure in school. Pupils value the wide range of opportunities available to them beyond the classroom. Many take part in extra-curricular clubs, trips and leadership roles. Pupils speak particularly enthusiastically about opportunities to perform in school productions and their swimming lessons in the school pool. These experiences help pupils to develop confidence and a sense of belonging. Pupils behave well throughout the school day and show positive attitudes to learning. They understand expectations and meet them consistently. Pupils attend regularly and recognise the importance of being in school. They have a deep rooted sense of belonging at Bishop's Waltham Junior School.

What the school should improve

  • Leaders should continue to embed effective strategies to support pupils who are disadvantaged, ensuring that they are systematically and skilfully adjusted as needed, so that they make a sustained difference to pupils’ learning.
  • Leaders should continue to refine their work around securing important foundations, for example handwriting, so that pupils apply their skills securely and routinely in all subjects.
